国外钛钙型焊条主要使用天然金红石，国内由于天然金红石资源较少，过去主要使用钛白粉和人造金红石。在焊条药皮中，钛白粉主要用于增塑，但是价位高，应尽可能采用其他材料代替或少用。目前，有在药皮中加入2～8%的滑石粉和6～14%的耐火粘土，代替钛白粉，或用海泡石代用，可使焊条压涂性能得到改善，使成本降低。
此外，国内钛铁矿资源丰富，因此可用其代替金红石制造焊条，降低成本。
